See the World Differently with Eyelid Rejuvenation

The eyes are the window to the soul, but they are the first area to show signs of aging. During the aging process, wrinkles, lines and puffiness contribute to a tired or aged appearance. A blepharoplasty or eyelid rejuvenation can return youthful elegance to an individual’s face, making the eyes brighter and more refreshed.

The blepharoplasty eyelid surgery is used to remove excess skin and protruding pockets of fat are removed from the upper and/or lower eyelids to reveal a rejuvenated and more alert look and in some cases help improve vision. Eyelid surgery will not, however, eliminate "crow's feet" wrinkles, dark circles or sagging eyebrows. For that reason, the procedure is often done in conjunction with a face or brow lift.

When it comes to making a big impact on your appearance with minimal recovery time, Dr. Gilbert Selkin believes Blepharoplasty is the procedure of choice.

The Blepharoplasty Procedure

By removing puffy bags and correcting droopy eyelids, a blepharoplasty can provide a rejuvenated look. It may even help you see better. During the eyelid lift, Dr. Gilbert Selkin will make a tiny incision along the natural contours around the eyes which should leave no visible scarring. The skin is then tightened to give a firm, smooth appearance, and they are closed with fine sutures. In some cases, laser technology may be used to smooth lower eyelid areas, as well as Botox injections to firm lines and wrinkles. Only minimal discomfort is typically associated with a blepharoplasty.

The Recovery Process

Dr. Selkin will give you specific post-operative instructions that should be followed for best results. After your procedure, some swelling and bruising is expected, but typically will diminish within one to two weeks. Many patients choose blepharoplasty because of the dramatically noticeable results and minimal recovery time.

Upper Blepharoplasty

Upper blepharoplasty, or removal of excess skin and fat from the upper eyelid, is usually performed for cosmetic reasons, but can be considered medically necessary when the excess skin covers the eyelid or deflects the eyelashes downward, affecting the visual field. In this procedure, the excess skin is removed along with appropriate amounts of fatty tissue to rejuvenate the upper eyelid appearance. The procedure is appropriate for both women and men.

Lower Blepharoplasty

Lower blepharoplasty can correct drooping lower lids and puffy bags below the eyes to help patients look younger. Removal or rearrangement of this fat, along with a skin excision or laser resurfacing, creates a more rested and youthful appearance under the eyes. This technique gives a natural look to the rejuvenated eyelids with minimal to no change in the lower eyelid position or contour. Depending on your condition, this procedure can be performed on the inside of the lower lid, leaving no visible external scar, or through the natural creases of your lower eyelid.

When considering blepharoplasty, ask yourself these questions: Do I appear tired? Do your eyes appear smaller than they did in the past? Is the skin of your upper eyelid overhanging the normal lid crease and nearing the eyelashes? Are there bulges and bags surrounding your eyes? If you answered YES to any of the questions, the schedule your FREE consultation with Dr. Gilbert Selkin today! You'll discover eyelid surgery is a relatively simple procedure that can create a dramatic change in your looks.

Are You a Candidate?

It's not just in Dallas / Fort Worth that eyelid cosmetic surgery is popular. Nationwide, it is the most popular cosmetic surgery procedure for patients over 35. The skin around the eye is very thin and therefore more prone to show sun damage, lack of elasticity, and may even sag from pulling too hard on the skin when washing your face or applying makeup. Add to that the natural deterioration that comes with age and the orbital area becomes the easiest area in which to see change. Men and women over 35 who are healthy both mentally and physically, and who are realistic in their expectations, are outstanding candidates for eyelid surgery. Patients under 35 are also good candidates if they have a family history of droopy, baggy eyelids.

So, how do you know if you are a candidate for blepharoplasty?

Look at pictures of yourself taken 10 years previously and note the presence or absence of fullness in your lids. Look for loose skin that was not there before. Note also if the brows have descended to a lower level. If you are seeing any of these changes, a consultation is warranted.
